Riding the WavesSeptember always feels like a threshold. Summer hasn't quite released us, but the light is changing, the evenings arrive a little sooner, and there is that familiar sense that something is turning, whether or not we're ready for it. I've certainly been feeling that turning this year. The past six months have brought changes I chose and others I didn't see coming. Some have brought relief and clarity, while others have carried unexpected and unresolved grief. I'm learning that I don't necessarily need to make sense of all of it yet. Sometimes we have to let something remain unfinished, grieve what was, and keep moving with the current of what is becoming. And amid all of that, something entirely new has begun. After 22 years of being completely self-employed, I've started working outside of my own business for the first time ever. When my husband unexpectedly lost his job earlier this summer, our circumstances shifted pretty quickly, and part of that meant me stepping into daytime work. I've recently begun working as an in-home caregiver, while continuing to tend Caveside Wellness alongside it. It's a much bigger shift than simply starting a new job. I've built my entire adult working life around my own businesses, so I'm finding my footing in a completely new rhythm. For the first time, I get to simply show up and do my job while someone else handles the scheduling, paperwork, and behind-the-scenes logistics. After 22 years of carrying all of those pieces myself, there's something refreshing about experiencing work from the other side. I'm also finding that this new chapter is allowing me to look at Caveside a little differently. It doesn't have to hold everything. It doesn't need to be everything I do or constantly grow into something bigger. It can remain small, intimate, a little wyrd, and deeply intentional. A place where I can offer the work I most want to offer to the people who want to gather here. That feels really good. So this fall, I'm settling into a new rhythm. Rituals, sauna, seasonal gatherings, and other special offerings will still pop up when the timing feels right, but at the heart of my regular schedule are two weekly evening classes here in the Cave. A space to slow down, reconnect with your body, and explore somatic movement, breath, embodied awareness, and intuitive movement, with space for emotional and cathartic release when it naturally arises. Thursdays • 6:30 PM • Mobility & Massage
A feel-good practice combining mobility, stretching, self-massage, and nervous system support to help you loosen what feels stuck and feel a little more at home in your body. Both are small, intimate classes held right here at Caveside Wellness, and I'm appreciating the steadiness of having these two places to land each week. Maybe that's what I'm learning in this particular season. We don't always get to choose the waves that come toward us, and we don't always get resolution before the next one arrives. A little like rowing out to a tiny island in Sweden at midnight, in the dark, with no lifejackets and a boat taking on water. I'd never rowed before, but sometimes you just have to figure it out as you go, keep rowing, and trust you'll eventually find your way to shore. With Love from the Cave,
